Here are the most popular HRA plan designs:
Deductible Gap HRA. Employers reduce group health premium cost by choosing a lower cost plan with higher deductibles or extra co-payments. Then, the employer uses some of the premium savings to self-insure the employee from extra deductible or co-payment expense. If no one has a deductible expense, employers save even more.
Individual Coverage HRA. With the ICHRA, businesses eliminate the difficulties of an employer-sponsored group health plan and reimburse their employees’ purchase of individual health insurance instead. Works for any size employee group.
Qualified Small Employer HRA. For groups of fewer than 50 employees, the QSEHRA reimburses employees for their purchase of health insurance with a few differences from the ICHRA. These differences include employees retaining use of ACA marketplace tax credits and integration with coverage under a spouse or parent’s group health plan.
Excepted Benefit HRA. Provides reimbursement of excepted benefits (such as dental or vision coverage) for employees regardless of whether they choose to participate in the employer’s Section 125 group health plan.
Comprehensive Integrated HRA. Employers can integrate an HRA with their group health insurance plan to pay the group health deductible plus co-payments and/or co-insurance, as well as additional medical, dental, and vision benefits.
Limited HRA. Employers can design an HRA Plan to reimburse specific dental and vision expenses, specific types of insurance premium, or retirement benefits.
